Good Food Governance
Take action for a fairer food system (with the chance to win Pukka Herbs tea and Wogan Coffee for your workplace!)
By Ramona Andrews
How can your organisation contribute to a fairer food system, both in Bristol and abroad, where much of the food we eat is produced? During November and December, as part of Bristol’s bid to be a Gold Sustainable Food City, Pukka Herbs and Wogan Coffee are offering the chance to win a selection of teas and coffee to organisations that sign up to any of the ‘Food Equality’ actions on the Going for Gold website .
Everyone should be able to access nutritious and affordable food. Unfortunately in Bristol this is not the case, with an estimated 43,000 people having limited or uncertain access to food.
Food Equality also means ensuring that the people that grow and produce our food receive a fair income, whether a local vegetable grower or a coffee farmer thousands of miles away.
Organisations of all sizes and sectors have enormous power in helping make this happen, by supporting local organisations working on food equality and considering their own food choices. While one organisation switching its tea to Fair Trade might not seem significant, if hundreds of organisations across the city take similar action, the collective impact could be huge.
There are five suggested Food Equality actions that your organisation can take, or you can also tell us about other relevant actions your organisation is taking:
Going for Gold offers a unique opportunity for the city to work together to build a fairer food system both in Bristol and abroad, and organisations have a key part to play. No matter what your particular role, we all have the power to ask a question or start a conversation at our workplace. So start thinking how your organisation can contribute, and be in with the chance with winning Pukka tea and Wogan coffee for you and your colleagues!
