Eating Better
Migrateful Sri Lankan Cookery Class with Kule
Migrateful
Address:
St Werburghs Community Centre, Horley Rd, St Werburghs, BS2 9TJ
Kule from Sri Lanka will guide you through how to prepare his menu from scratch while sharing stories, secrets and inspiration about traditional Sri Lankan food and culture.
Sri Lankan cuisine showcases the incredible array of ingredients grown on the island, including rice, coconut, curry leaves, tamarind and spices such as cinnamon, turmeric and cardamom. Kule will share some of his favourite dishes using a special style of preparation called “Lamprais”. This is a delicacy from the Dutch Burgher tradition which uses banana leaves to wrap delicious parcels of rice and curries.
You’ll cook in groups with your fellow class participants before sitting down together with your chef to enjoy a delicious meal together. After the class, you’ll be emailed the recipes you learned how to prepare, so you can bring a taste of Sri Lanka to your own table.
Migrateful is an award-winning charity & social enterprise supporting asylum seekers, refugees & migrants in their journey to integration & independence. They do this by preparing them to lead cookery classes where they share their traditional cuisine, culture and stories with public and private groups. As well as supporting its chefs, the organisation’s mission is to correct harmful narratives about immigration.
Additionally to London, Brighton and online, Migrateful runs public classes in Bristol. These are led by seven different chefs and hosted at Coexist Community Kitchen and St Werburghs
