More Info

Horfield Orchard Community Orchard (HOCO)’s pruning courses and fees are designed to aid learning by working with real trees over the two seasonal phases of the year: dormant and growing.

HOCO is home to more than 80 fruit trees – of different varieties, ages, and needs. Taking part in courses over two, or more, years deepens knowledge, experience and skill.

One-to-one follow up working with trees in your care is a brilliant way to put new learning into action, improve skill and confidence. Following up the HOCO session with a one-to-one is a unique opportunity that is highly recommended by all participants of previous courses.

Renewing knowledge and refreshing skills is as important as keeping our tools sharp. Climate change and weather extremes are challenging past practices. We prune better when we understand the nature and condition of the tree and are guided by its response to our interventions.

*Two, or more years of experience, plus previous participation in an Orchard Learning or equivalent practical pruning course.
