Urban Growing

April update

  • Bristol Food Network, Bristol Food Producers and other key stakeholders inputted into the development of the Bristol City Council’s parks and green spaces strategy, which has now been approved. The strategy includes three key commitments related to food growing:
  1. Reducing the number of people who are waiting to access Bristol City Council-owned food growing spaces.
  2. Delivering new spaces for food growing while maintaining the balance of land outlined in the wider Parks and Green Spaces Strategy.
  3. Working to ensure people and communities from every area of the city can access suitable food growing opportunities.
  • To address the grower skills training gap, Bristol Food Producers has spent time asking new entrant growers what would have helped them to better launch their careers as they grow their own businesses. BFP has collected that hindsight and is now in the process of developing an in-depth, intensive, practical / theory based one year grower course on a dynamic growing project near Bristol. The aim is to equip participants with the knowledge and hands-on skills to take a real step forward into the growing world.
