Urban Growing

July update

  • Bristol Food Network delivered the Get Growing Trail in June. 32 growing spaces from across the city took part in the Trail open weekend – offering people from across Bristol the opportunity to find out more about community growing and to get involved. This year also included free public workshops on a range of gardening and growing skills. Alongside the Trail, Bristol Food Network is organising an event in September for people involved in organising community growing projects – to help support the longer term sustainability of the projects.
  • Avon Wildlife Trust has been offering a Team Wilder Community Ecologist – a free service for individuals, community groups and schools to access to enable them to make their garden, community space, land or small-holding more wildlife-friendly.
  • Bristol Food Producers is continuing to develop a comprehensive agroecological grower training course. The one-year training course will provide the wide range of skills needed to success as a food grower. As well as food growing, the course will likely cover crop planning, mechanics, tractor driving, business and marketing skills. Funding is being sought to support more intensive development of the course in 2025 with an aim of launching from 2026.
