Chef Skills Bootcamp

By Jo Trendall

Jo Trendall from Working Knowledge shares an update about the Chef Skills Bootcamp, a programme helping to develop ambitions in the food industry, supported by industry experts.

We are absolutely thrilled to have reached Week Seven of our second Chef Skills Bootcamp in Bristol, led by the brilliantly talented chefs Alexis John and Christie Allen — and what an incredible journey it’s already been.

This 10-week, hands-on programme is designed for people who are curious about cooking and want to discover what it truly takes to become a professional chef. With the support of some of Bristol’s best foodies and hospitality partners, our mission is simple: to nurture, inspire and launch the next generation of outstanding chefs.

Alongside practical kitchen training, our learners also get the chance to visit — and be visited by — some of the most respected chefs in the South West, giving them a real insight into life in professional kitchens.

So far, in just seven weeks, our cohort has covered so much, including cooking methods, food safety, social media (and how to use it for a food business), interview skills and tonnes more!

Just this week the cohort focussed on menu planning and working as a part of a kitchen brigade in preparation for the group’s final showcase on Monday 26 January.

The progress, confidence and passion we’re seeing already is genuinely inspiring.

If you know anyone who loves food, enjoys being hands-on, or dreams of working in a professional kitchen – get in touch.

The next cohort starts on Monday 2 February 2026, and applications are now open. Apply here and spread the word to anyone you think would be interested.
