This is an online event.
More Info
Kick off the new year and bring back nature to your doorstep! Join our session to discover how easy – and rewarding – it can be to grow food or flowers, even in the smallest of spaces.
Whatever outdoor space you have – a backyard, balcony, or tiny garden – learn how daily contact with nature can reduce stress, lift your spirit and improve your health.
This is the first in a new gardening series hosted by a team of ‘Postcode Gardeners’. These are professional gardeners who support communities to restore greenery and wildlife with the support of Friends of the Earth and The Co-operative Bank.
Growing in Small Urban Spaces – how to get ready for the New Year
In this 60 minute session, Liz Moxon, Postcode Gardener in Notting Dale London, will bring you a wheelbarrow full of practical ideas to help you make the most out of your small outdoor spaces – wherever you live.
Whether you’re gardening in a city courtyard, balcony, or compact garden, this session shows how growing food and flowers can be accessible and rewarding even in challenging urban conditions.
What you’ll learn
You’ll also enjoy a live gardening demonstration from the greenhouse, bringing the tips to life in real time – and will have a space to ask Liz some of our gardening questions.
Finally, we’ll look at some recent successes from the Postcode Gardener programme, funded by Friends of the Earth in partnership with The Co-operative Bank – with the community gardening programme continuing to grow around England and Wales.
The Co-operative Bank & Friends of the Earth
Friends of the Earth and The Co-operative Bank joined forces to launch a multi-year partnership which is bringing back nature to some of the UK’s most nature-deprived communities through the Postcode Gardener programme.
Postcode Gardeners work with local communities to help them reclaim public spaces, connect with nature and build a shared, positive vision for their neighbourhoods. This is done by teaching them practical skills on how to bring life to any size of green space available. From growing plants for food to creating a wildlife haven in our back garden – these practical skills can help restore nature while bringing people together to socialise outdoors.
Now our Postcode Gardeners are passing on their skills and advice to a new audience by a presenting a series of live gardening sessions – encouraging others to learn how to make the most of their green spaces.
Your Host
Liz Moxon is the Notting Dale Postcode Gardener and works for charity Westway Trust in North Kensington, London.
Liz’s work has been to create opportunities to improve the area for local residents and the planet, supporting the community to come together around nature and wildlife-friendly gardening activities. This has included aiding greening initiatives led by the survivors of the tragic 2017 Grenfell disaster.
