More Info

Horfield Orchard Community Orchard (HOCO)’s pruning courses and fees are designed to aid learning by working with real trees over the two seasonal phases of the year: dormant and growing.

HOCO is home to more than 80 fruit trees – of different varieties, ages, and needs. Taking part in courses over two, or more, years deepens knowledge, experience and skill.

One-to-one follow up working with trees in your care is a brilliant way to put new learning into action, improve skill and confidence. Following up the HOCO session with a one-to-one is a unique opportunity that is highly recommended by all participants of previous courses.

The best way to learn how to prune fruit trees is to work with real trees, during the dormant and the growing season, guided by an expert. Learn to identify and work with the fruiting habits, growing characteristics, and wood of different ages. Make pruning decisions and pruning cuts. Pruning properly helps trees be healthy, fruitful, and pleasing to the eye.
