Eating Better
- The Square Food Foundation team started working with four new schools in South Bristol in January. Square Food has delivered a comprehensive programme of food and cookery activities for primary schools to help get cooking in the classroom and make good food a way of life for the whole school community. - As of February 2024, the number of settings with the Bristol Eating Better Award across the city increased to 296. The award supports businesses, schools and early years caterers that provide healthier food options and promote food and environmental sustainability.
- The Children’s Kitchen continues to run educational sessions with pre-school children – with two new school settings in the city this year and 19 settings in total. The Children’s Kitchen is a city-wide Feeding Bristol and Bristol Early Years project which focusses on the areas of Bristol with the highest levels of food inequality. The project’s core work is in nursery schools, early years settings, schools and children’s centres working with young children, aged 2-4, and their families. The Children’s Kitchen encourages early years settings to embed food and growing into their core activities, focusing on fresh produce instead of traditional cake making, and building the confidence and skills of practitioners so that they can run the project themselves long term.
