Food Justice

July update

Food Justice Fortnight ran from Sunday 23 June to Saturday 6 July, celebrating food charities and organisations in Bristol while promoting fair access to food and a sustainable food system. More than 20 events took place, starting with The Children’s Kitchen takeover at Felix Road Adventure Playground, which asked children and parents what they would want to see on a Children’s Food Education Charter, and included a panel on food and language at Coexist Community Kitchen with guests from 91 Ways to Build a Global City, Travelling Kitchen and Kele Alexander, a nutritionist and caterer from Trinidad. This all culminated in a celebration meal with One Love Hub and Square Food Foundation.

Mali Evans from Feeding Bristol discussed the event on The Food Foundation’s Pod Bite podcast, emphasising its goals of community celebration and changing the food conversation. Listen now. More updates and stories about the week will be available soon on the Feeding Bristol website.

Additionally, the oversubscribed Bristol Local Food Fund is currently allocating funding, and Feeding Bristol is managing the community food aspect of the Household Support Fund for Bristol City Council, with a funding application deadline of Friday 19 July, and distribution in early August.
