Good Food Governance

November update

Significant progress has been made on the Food Disaster Risk Planning (FDRP) project to strengthen Bristol’s food resilience.

Workshop 3 was delivered on Tuesday 13 May 2025, bringing together decision-makers, community organisations and key stakeholders to reflect on Bristol’s COVID-19 food response. The session focused on feeding back findings from workshops, interviews and case studies, mapping stakeholders and system gaps, and co-developing realistic, actionable recommendations. Strong consensus emerged around the need for shared understanding, clearer coordination and defined ownership of future food resilience planning. Draft analysis led by the University of the West of England and University of Bristol partners is synthesising insights into key preparedness actions, coordination needs and unresolved risks.

Workshop 4 was delivered Tuesday on 21 October 2025, engaging almost 30 community organisations and sector partners. This workshop shared two years of learning, tested food system shock scenarios through an interactive exercise, and gathered input on priorities and next steps for a Bristol Food Disaster Risk Plan.

To date, nearly 150 stakeholders have been engaged through workshops, interviews and communications.

Ongoing work includes synthesis of research and case studies, stakeholder and network mapping, narrative development and early modelling of support structures and resource mobilisation. Regular monthly project team meetings continue to guide coordination and delivery.
