ONE POUND. ONE BOWL. ONE LONG TABLE. ONE COMMUNITY.
On 3 November, we will bring together two things close to our hearts: healthy, affordable food for our Bristol community and the remarkable history connecting Bristol and Korea.
Chef Wizzy, Tiger Mum and Barimigol Community Project are delighted to announce that the Lord Mayor of Bristol will be joining us for this very special community celebration!
We will celebrate the 154th birthday of Ernest Thomas Bethell, born in Bristol on 3 November 1872.
Bethell became a journalist in Korea, standing alongside the Korean people during their struggle for independence. He helped establish the Daehan Maeil Sinbo newspaper, whose legacy continues today through Seoul newspaper.
Born in Bristol. Remembered in Korea.
To celebrate, Chef Wizzy will prepare 100 colourful bowls of Korean bibimbap, bringing together vegetables, grains, homemade kimchi and traditional Korean flavours.
We will also share a small exhibition about Bethell’s life and his connection to Bristol.
This lunch is for everyone — elderly neighbours, students, families, children and anyone who wants to enjoy good food and good company.
Our dream is to make £1 community lunches a regular event in Bristol.
We welcome volunteers, food donations, local business support and anyone who believes that good food should be accessible to everyone.
Come and celebrate history, friendship and community with us!
