Hospitality Guide

Addressing global sustainability challenges with local resources and knowledge.

Introduction

In Bristol, we are one of only three cities in the UK to hold a Sustainable Food Places Gold Award and are fortunate to have a brilliant range of hospitality businesses. Nevertheless, the impacts of a pandemic, supply and staffing issues post-Brexit and the cost-of-living crisis have hit the sector hard, pushing complex sustainability issues down the priority list.

Sustainability is all about longevity and leaving things better than we found them. That’s what this guide is all about; it aims to provide hospitality businesses with practical, straightforward advice and resources to enhance their sustainability efforts. The content is broken down into five themes where a focus on local information can provide genuinely useful advice and inspiring case studies.

Embracing sustainable practices isn’t just about doing the right thing, it also helps attract customers, retain staff and leads to innovation and creativity in the kitchen. This sector can also significantly improve our local food system. From shaping supply chains with local producers to setting trends with citizens and much more, the potential is vast. With nearly 4,000 food businesses operating in Bristol we have a massive opportunity to advance towards the city’s good food goals for 2030.
