Of the 36 actions in the Food Waste Action Plan:
- 3 have been successfully completed
- 24 are currently in progress
- 9 have not yet started
Notable progress has been made in community composting and food‑waste‑reduction initiatives, which have been highly successful throughout 2025. Community organisations such as Heart of BS13 and Generation Soil are leading the way in demonstrating how local solutions can tackle food waste in Bristol. There has also been strong engagement from the universities, which have played an important role in publicly promoting better food‑waste practices.
Organisations including Fareshare South West and Neighbourly continue to redistribute large volumes of surplus food across the Bristol area, while working to strengthen direct links with food producers to improve distribution efficiency. The universities and hospitals in Bristol have also been actively trialling and implementing food‑waste‑reduction measures, yielding some encouraging results throughout 2025.
