Urban Growing
Urban Growing
Of the 48 actions in the Urban Growing Action Plan (the largest number across all themes):
- 2 have been successfully completed
- 28 are currently in progress
- 18 have not yet started
While more than half of the actions are either complete or in progress, several workstreams have faced notable challenges. This Action Plan contains the largest number of actions across all themes, reflecting the wide and diverse group of partners who co‑produced it. Progress has been slowed by limited resources and funding, alongside the demanding nature of land‑based work during the busy growing season, when Working Group members, who already contribute significant time to Bristol Food Network, Feeding Bristol and other activities, have limited additional capacity. Limited staff capacity within Bristol City Council Allotments & Smallholdings team has also delayed progress on some actions.
Despite these challenges, collaboration within Urban Growing has been a major strength. New initiatives have taken shape, including the green‑social‑prescribing and agroecology group led by Lush Greens, another group exploring shared routes to market, and Bristol Food Producers re‑established quarterly skills and training network that brings organisations together to share updates, signpost opportunities and coordinate strategically. Significant progress has also been made in developing the infrastructure and processes needed to support land matching between prospective growers and landowners.
