Local Food Economy

January update

Bristol Good Food 2030 Local Food Economy goals and priorities are confirmed and are summarised as below. These priorities are being shared with all community groups listed in the Bristol Good Food directory. If you are from an organisation helping to make Bristol’s food system better for communities, climate and nature, please get in touch if you would like to be included in the Bristol Good Food 2030 communities group mailing list. The below priorities inform the Bristol Good Food 2030 Action Plans and Framework.

Infrastructure 

  • The local food economy offers inclusive, progressive career paths and entrepreneurship support.
    By working with Bristol City Council to shape support for new food businesses 
  • Food distribution across the city is lower carbon, lower emissions and supports the local food economy.

    romoting options for freight consolidation.
  • Local food infrastructure is increasingly equitable across the city with appropriate community-based infrastructure (spaces/production facilities) widely available.
    By working with Feeding Bristol to map and support community cooking facilities. 

Procurement 

  • Significant growth in procurement from local and regional sustainable suppliers.
    By Bristol City Council exploring freight consolidation to increase the small and local suppliers they procure from.  
  • Sustainable, low carbon procurement standards are adopted across all sectors.

    esearching good standards from other regions and working to have them adopted by public and private procurers within Bristol. 
  • Carbon footprinting of food is widespread and its footprint is actively reduced through procurement practices.

    rialling and encouraging the use of ‘carbon footprinting’ tools.
